What are the earthquake causes and effects ?

Earthquake causes and effects

Earthquake Causes:

Plate Tectonics:
Earthquakes are most often caused by movement of the Earth's tectonic plates. These massive slabs of the Earth's crust can collide, scrape against each other, or pull apart. When the stress on the edge of the plate becomes too great, it causes the crust to break and earthquakes occur.

Human Activity:
Human activities such as mining, water extraction and the use of explosives can cause earthquakes. These activities can cause stress on the Earth's crust, leading to earthquakes.

Volcanic Activity:
Earthquakes can also be caused by volcanic activity. When magma is forced up through the Earth's crust, it can cause the crust to break, creating an earthquake.

 Earthquake Effects:

Ground Shaking:
Earthquakes cause the ground to shake, which can cause structural damage to buildings and other infrastructure.

Landslides:

Earthquakes can also cause landslides, which can cause further damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Tsunamis:
Earthquakes that occur beneath the ocean can cause tsunamis, which can cause widespread destruction and loss of life.

Fires:
Earthquakes can also cause fires, either due to structural damage or disruption to the power grid.

Disease:
Earthquakes can also cause outbreaks of disease, either due to disruption of water and sanitation systems, or due to increased contact with contaminated water.
